  1. It would be nice if there was a 'Reset LogShipping' option

Due to our network and hiccups and such, I seem to have to reset log shipping quite often. It would be nice if there was a 'Reset LogShipping' option that would just re-run the Log Shipping setup.
I have become quite proficient at deleting the jobs and running through the setup wizard.
It was suggested to disable the jobs and do a backup and restore and delete existing log files and then enable the jobs. But honestly it is quicker to just start over.

      • Filtering mechanism for backup files and organizing files

Is there a filtering mechanism in the "My backups" page for easy retrieval of backup file? Can it be organized by date/folder?

          • Get rid of US backup hosted storage

If you had non-US servers for storing backups in the cloud we would buy the product. Privacy is key for us.

            • Bug -- Copy Only option disappears from jobs with it enabled

If I create a backup job in version 7.6.0.26 using the copy only option, it is not checked when I come back and reedit it. It does save the option when checked in the job, but has to potential to have a user unintentionally remove it if not paying attention. Please fix so that it this option is properly parsed when editing a job.

              • New Feature: Change UI to allow for multiple user profiles to share the jobs.

The current UI (6.+ and now 7.2) does not allow for multiple administrators that use unique server logins. When a second admin tries to view the activity history for a job the administrator already logged into the UI must log out. This impeads the work flow of the other administrator.

To get around this our network had to create a common administrator usr account to login to the server. Security has tightened and this is no longer allowed.

                • Shift and Right-Click

I run SQL Pro with different credentials from the account I log on to my workstation with. Typical of most Windows programs is Shift Right-Click and the context menu that then appears includes "run as a different user."

With SQL Backup Pro, this does not work from any shortcuts. I have to go to the executable in Windows Explorer in order to be able to run as a different user. Can you please ensure that this will work from desktop, menu and taskbar shortcut icons?

The FULLIFREQUEIRED option works fine when used with SQL Server 2005 SP4 and above. The bogus warning should not go off when it is successful.

                      • Fix the SQBConverterGUI bug.

The SQBConverterGUI utility that ships with your product still crashes. This can be resolved by copying old files to the SQL Backup programs folder, but this really needs to be fixed in your build.

Even in version 7.6 this is still a problem. Please fix this in you next release.

Below are some forum threads where Red Gate support acknowledges the problem.

                          • Failure of copy to remote backup is only a warning, allowing silent failure

When SQL Backup fails to copy to the secondary (remote) backup location, it fails with a 141 error code. Since the standard check for generated backup looks for anything over 500, it treats this as a warning only and silently fails the job. This becomes a surprise if the remote backup location is your tape drive and you think the backup is working when in reality it is not copying to the remote location.

As part of database backup "testing" I randomly select a few backups and restore them on another server. Not difficult to do but time consuming and repetitive, especially for a multi-server farm. Would like a utility to automate this process.

Would like to see one single repository similar to SQL Server Management Studio's Central Management Server. Each client should have the same view of SQL Instances and when you had an instance it should be the same for all the DBAs looking at the client. Real pain to have to add all the SQL instances locally and log in to another machine and have to configure it again. Would also have a central location to keep job history repository and possibly run all the jobs from the repository machine rather than creating SQL Agent jobs on each individual machine.

                                    • Resultset for RESTORE FILELISTONLY doesn't match v6.5

After installing v7 on a test platform, an application I wrote using the extended stored procedure interface fails. I traced the failure to an attempt to store the resultset returned from:

                                      INSERT @tblFileList EXEC master..sqlbackup '-sql "RESTORE FILELISTONLY FROM DISK=[\\server\share\backup.sqb]" ', @exitCode OUTPUT, @sqlErrorCode OUTPUT

Apparently v6.5 returns LogGroupGUID as varchar(36) while v7 returns UNIQUEIDENTIFIER. Is this a bug or a feature? :-)
